Message from the Chair

Dear Friends,

Mining for Miracles had a great year in 2011 – YOU helped raise $2,404,934 for BC Children’s Hospital! Contributions came from a series of fun and interactive events including: a Diamond Draw, Jeans Day, Mining Executive Dinner, Slo-Pitch Tournament, Teck’s Celebrity Pie Throw and numerous company sponsored events like barbeques, bake sales, and fundraising challenges! New this year to the Mining for Miracles Campaign was a fishing derby, aptly named Hooked-on-Miracles, which was held in Tofino in late June.

Mining for Miracles works closely with the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation (BCCHF) to make your donations impactful. We support research, capital investment, and the provision of health care at the hospital that creates centres of excellence at BC Children’s. Over the past 24-years BC’s Mining Industry has raised more than $18.2M for BC Children’s Hospital.

Funding from 2011 helped complete the acquisition and installation of a world class Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) unit at Children’s. The funds were also directed to the completion of a similarly world class medical simulation lab that will be used to improve the quality of care provided, and to train the next generation of care givers at BC Children’s. One hundred percent (100%!) of the funds raised by the Mining for Miracles Campaign go directly to identified areas of need at the hospital.

The Mining for Miracles Committee is made up of ~30 volunteers from various sectors of BC’s mining industry. If you would like to join the committee and are able to commit time, resources and your industry connections to help the cause, give us a call.

2012 is the Silver Anniversary for Mining for Miracles. It marks the 25th year in which BC’s Mining Industry and BC Children’s Hospital have partnered to improve the quality of healthcare provided to the children of BC. Help us celebrate our Anniversary! We also have a new Co-Chair of the Committee that many of you know through his service to AME BC – please welcome Jason Weber, President & CEO, Kiska Metals Corporation, to the Committee and thank him for his commitment to BC Children’s Hospital.

I would like to thank all the volunteers, our generous donors, the leadership at the Association of Mineral Exploration of BC (AME BC) and the Mining Association of British Columbia (MABC), our industry leaders and their employees, and the BCCHF for making Mining for Miracles the most successful mining partnership in British Columbia. Your support makes the difference.

Wishing you a safe and Happy Holiday Season and Prosperous New Year,
